Down St. Mary
Easter at St. Mary's April sees the last three of our Mid-week Lent evening prayers at 4.00 pm on Wednesday the 2nd, 9th and 16th. These short reflective Lay led services help us to prepare spiritually for Holy week and Easter.
At 11.00 am on Sunday 13th April, we celebrate Palm Sunday with the Rev. John Copus. On Thursday 17th April, Maundy Thursday, there is a Group Eucharist service at Colebrooke at 7.30 pm where the Altar will be stripped. Following this, at Down St. Mary we will have a short service at 9.00 pm where our Altar will be stripped. We then hold a Vigil at the Church until Mid-night. Every one is welcomed to partake in this Vigil and to come and leave as they wish. However, there will be a list at the back of the Church to ensure there is someone present ( with Jesus) at the Church during the Vigil times. So if you can commit to a particular half-hour or hour period, please add your name to the list. We would encourage you to join with other people in the Vigil.
Finally, come and celebrate the Risen Christ on Easter Day, Sunday 20th April, at 11.00 am when we have our Easter Day Eucharist Service.
Easter Lilies. There is a form at the back of the Church for the purchase of Easter Lilies in memory of our loved ones. Please add your name and the name(s) of departed family or friends to the list, if you would like to participate. Names of those you wish to be remembered will be displayed over the Easter period. Please would you do this by Sunday 6th April so that Lilies can be ordered in good time. Lilies will cost £3.00 each and please give the money either to Jan Phillips or Nigel Fidock.
PCC Annual General Meeting. The Meeting of Parishioners will take place at 7.15 pm on Wednesday 30th April to appoint Churchwardens. Following this, the Church's Annual General Meeting will take place. This is your opportunity to see what has been happening and what is being planned for the coming year at your Church. There will be reports from our Vicar, treasurer and worship group to name but a few! It is a meeting open to all, so come along for an enjoyable evening!!
