Down St Mary Village Hall, Antique Valuation, with Cheese and Wine, Evening.
There was a full house at the Down St Mary Village Hall on Wednesday 29th April for the Antique Valuation with Cheese and Wine. Some 60 local parishioners search their attics, garages and under their beds, to find their most treasured antiques, and brought these along to the Village Hall for valuation. These included swords, vases, watches, clocks, die-cast toys, brooches, glassware, silverware and even a Davenport, was carried up the hill, and brought into the Village Hall.
Proceedings started at 7:30, and were conducted by Chris Hampton, Managing Director of Bearnes, Hampton, Littlewood, who gave a very enlightened insight to each item on display, explaining their history, whether the items value was likely to increase or decrease over time, as well as its current value. This was accompanied by several oohs! and gasps! from the assembled audience, as some of the valuations reached 4 figures.

After an hour, there was an interval, so everyone could draw breath, and tucked in to the superb spread of Local Cheese's and Wine, which was organised by the Village Hall Committee, with special thanks to Denise Appleyard, and Tessa Pluck for collecting and arranging the Hall and Supper. During this interval a raffle was conducted by Nigel Fidock, before Chris Hampton resumed his valuations.
The evening was a huge success, making £486.68, with everyone enjoying themselves, and asking, when will the next Village Hall Event take place? Well here is a date for your diaries
