Down St Mary Summer Fayre, Saturday 6 June, Newsletter.
The sun shone, and the parishioners turned out in force for the Down St Mary Summer Fayre. Councillor Margaret Squires opened the Fayre, and invited everyone to enjoy themselves, and spend lots of money. Then the fun started, led by the duo, "Entertainingly Differently" who performed for the whole afternoon, to the huge enjoyment of the large crowd.
Two rounds of the Egg Catching Doubles Event took place, with several competitors ending up with egg on their faces, much to the enjoyment of the watching spectators. The Crazy Golf, Skittles, BBQ, and Beer Tent proved, as always, a major attraction, but the Cake stall, Tom-Bola and Cream Teas were overwhelmed with eager folk looking for refreshments, bargains, or a lucky win. The Children's Fancy Dress, Children's Cup Cake and Gentleman Cake Competitions were very well represented, and the winners of the Cup Cake Completions were 1st Alice Luke, 2nd Eliza Luke and 3rd Amber Huntington-Whiteley, who all received winners Cups and Prizes for their efforts.
In the late afternoon "Entertainingly Differently" acted out a brilliant interpretation of Jack and the Bean Stalk, much to the enjoyment of the young, and surprisingly, the old alike, and they brought the afternoon, to a close, with the Accept or Gamble Raffle, to which the assembled crowd gave the winners all the verbal encouragement they needed, to help them choose their prize.
The Village Hall Committee would like thank Dianne Pearson for donating the rose quartz necklace, also Waterbridge Golf Course, The Devonshire Dumpling, Tuckers and Tesco Crediton for donating prizes for the raffle. Finally very special thanks must go to everyone, for supporting the Village Hall, and the villagers who donated cakes and tombola prizes and most of all for the support and help we received on the day, which lead to a very enjoyable and successful afternoon.
