Down St. Mary Church News

March 2016

Easter at St. Mary’s.  Our preparations for Easter continue with our Mid-week Evening Prayer and morning Eucharist Services. At 4.00 pm on Wednesday’s the 2nd, 9th and 16th of March we will have short reflective Lay led services helping to prepare for the sacrifice made for us and the victory in the resurrection on Easter Day. On Wednesday 23rd at 10.30 am there will be a Eucharist (said) Service with the Rev. Anthony Geering.

On Thursday 24th, Maundy Thursday, following the Mission Community Service at Colebrooke at 7.30 pm, there will be a service at 9.00 pm at St. Mary’s. In this short service the Altar will be stripped and it will lead directly into our Vigil until Mid-Night. You are welcome to attend the service and to keep Vigil with our Lord at any time. If you can commit to a particular half hour (or longer) period, please put your name on the list at the back of the Church. We would encourage you, if possible, to attend with another person.

On Easter day, the 27th, you are invited to celebrate the risen Christ at 11.15 am with the Rev’d Lindsey Starrs. The Church will be decorated to its usual high standard for this special day. You are also invited to stay after the service for a slice of Simnel cake and a glass of sherry.

Mothering Sunday. On Sunday 6th March we will be holding a Mothering Sunday lay led afternoon Service at 4.00pm. So, after being spoilt to lunch, come to the service and enjoy a cup of tea and slice of cake after. All are welcome.

Cross Country delivery. I am pleased to report that Margaret Phillips has ‘stepped up to the plate’ and will be our delivery agent for Cross Country. A big thank you Margaret.
